Screen Studio

Select Screen Studio to create and customize your own Quaver screen. It contains a variety of helpful templates to get you started, as well as the File Upload, Web Link, Video Link, and Multimedia functionalities from older versions of Resource Creation.

Screen Studio Overview #

Upon opening Screen Studio, you’ll come to the default starting screen. There are a wide variety of functions to explore.

Header Section #

On the left, you’ll see a Load Template button. This contains an organized selection of screens to use or build off of. *Note that loading a template will remove all previous work done on the screen – loading a template should be the first thing done on a custom screen, if applicable.*

In the center, you’ll see your screen title box. You’ll need to title your screen in order to save it, later.

On the right is the Help button. Selecting this brings you back to this help page.

Lefthand Column #

On the lefthand side of your Screen Studio page, you’ll see a column of dropdown menus and buttons.

The Menu button opens a small dropdown with options to undo, preview, and alter the accessibility indices (order in which screen reader reads the screen).

Below the Menu button, is another dropdown menu, containing the different sort of layers you can add to a screen. Below is a summary of each item, but we will go into each function in more detail further down.

Background: Alter the background color, add a music watermark, or add a premade background image.

Text: Add a simple text box.

Rich Text: Add a larger, more customizable text box.

Image: Imbed an image.

Audio: Add audio.

Shape: Create a circle or square shape, in which you can add any of the above types of layers.

Flipcard: Add a premade or custom flipcard to your screen.

You can add custom notes to any multi-media screen using the ‘Add/Edit Notes’ icon.

Background #

Opening the Background section of the dropdown menu gives you three options for altering the background of your screen.

You can change the background color, add a QuaverMusic watermark, or add one of our predesigned background images (see examples below).

Text #

Opening the Text section of the dropdown menu gives you these options for building a text layer.

Five font options: Myriad Bold, Myriad Regular, House Holiday, Poppins, Roboto Slab

Text size, by pixel

Text color

Underline

Stroke, or Text Outline

Stroke size, by pixel

Stroke color

Leading indent, by pixel

Select “Add Text” once finished editing.

Editing and Adjusting the Text Box

When you select an added text box, another tool menu will open to the right of the box.

Text: Edit the text within your box

Resize: Resize the box or image. A red border will appear. Select and drag the white square to resize. Select anywhere outside of it to exit.

Box and Text Alignment: Alter the alignment of the whole box or the text within the box.

URL & File Upload: Upload a link to a webpage or a file.

ALT Text: Add ALT text for images.

Layer Control: The arrow icons control the layers on your screen. Use the up and down arrows to edit images’ order and layering style. Note that you cannot use this function on Rich Text boxes.

Delete: Select the trash can to delete the box.

Rich Text #

Rich text opens a text box where you can customize the font, indention, bullet points, and alignments as you type. While text boxes are best used for titles, labels, and short decorative copy, Rich Text is best for formatted content, for example: bullet points, numbered lists, or a mix of bold, italicized, and underlined text within the same block.

Note that Rich Text boxes cannot be layered behind other images and text, like other boxes can.

Shape #

The shape tool lets you create content boxes anywhere on your screen. You can change the color of the background, add and adjust a border, and choose from a circular or squared shape. By selecting within the created shape, you open a menu where you can move, resize, align, attach files and URL links, adjust the layer placement, and delete.

Flipcard #

Flipcards are buttons that can be repeatedly selected to swap between two different images and alt text.

You can create your own Flipcards by selected Create Your Own! on the Flipcard Selection screen. Then you will upload two images, the front and back of the card. Alt Text for both sides can be added here as well. Select OK when you’re finished.

Finding Your Custom Screen #

Once you’ve completed and saved your screen, head to your My Custom Screens folder in Resource Manager to view your finished work. This screen will remain in this folder ready to be added to a custom lesson or assignment at any time!
