Taking Assessments

Types of Assessments #

The QuaverReady Insight Assessment assesses five core competencies:

  • Self-Awareness
  • Self-Management
  • Social Awareness
  • Relationship Skills
  • Responsible Decision-Making

The assessments, or surveys, are a short set of statements, each answered on a rating scale. The platform scores the answers, bands the scores into tiers, and rolls them up from a single student to a class, a school, and a district.

There are three types of available assessments in Quaver’s Insight Assessment:

  1. Educator Assessment of Student Core Competencies – you open the assessment from the roster and complete it yourself. The most common pattern, and the only one that produces lesson and intervention recommendations.
  2. Parent Assessment of Student (COMING SOON) – a parent launches an assessment about their child under the student’s account through the Parent Portal. It attaches to the student’s record like any other assessment.
  3. Student Self-Assessment of Core Competencies – you give it; the student completes it from their own portal. You cannot complete it on their behalf.
  4. Outside Educator Assessment via share link – a single-use link lets someone without a Quaver account complete an assessment about one of your students. They type their own name into “Assessed By”.

Educator Assessment of Student Core Competencies #

Most educators will use this type of assessment. Educators open and complete the assessment themselves, about the student.

Uses of the Educator Assessment of Student Core Competencies include:

  • Track Student Growth: Continuously monitor real-time progress and milestone achievements.
  • Prove Program Efficacy: Provide administration with measurable insights to validate curriculum impact and ROI.
  • Target Early Interventions: Instantly flag vulnerable students who require immediate, tiered behavioral support.
  • Adapt Daily Instruction: Pinpoint specific, data-driven lessons to strengthen collective classroom dynamics.

Student Self-Assessment of Core Competencies #

An educator prints or reads the assessment to the student, allowing them to fill out the answers.

Uses of the Student Self-Assessment of Core Competencies

  • Drive Self-Awareness: Empowers students to reflect on and evaluate their own emotional growth.
  • Align Perspectives: Cross-references student inputs with teacher data to uncover hidden blind spots.
  • Target Support: Facilitates data-driven student dialogues to deploy immediate, individualized interventions.

Outside Educator Assessment via share link #

Educators can create a one-time share link to send an assessment to another educator or parent.

This is done by navigating to Educator Assessment of Student Core Competencies, then selecting a class. The Share Assessment option is under the three dots menu on the right-hand sign.

This opens a popup with a link. Send this link to another educator to complete the assessment. They can fill in “Assessed By” and submit without logging in. The link stops working once it has been submitted.

Functions Within the Assessments #

All assessment types have similar functionality. On the far right of each statement is an information icon. The information icon provides a detailed rubric to assist you in assessing each statement. It offers clear descriptors for each response option, from Strongly Disagree to Strongly Agree, outlining specific behaviors and abilities associated with each rating level.

Autosave

Every answer saves on its own about a second after you select it. Closing the tab mid-way loses nothing.

Save Draft

Forces an immediate save and confirms it. Return to the same link any time to pick up where you left off.

Remaining Count

Sits above the buttons and counts down. Submit Survey stays disabled until every statement is answered.

Preview Snapshot

On student assessments, shows the MTSS Snapshot as it stands with the answers entered so far, without submitting.

Print

Prints the assessment with your answers, under a branded header.

Delete

Removes the assessment. Use it for an assessment started on the wrong student or by mistake.

Read-Aloud

On assessments with audio enabled, each question carries a play button.

Rubrics

Some statements carry a rubric — an icon on the statement opens the descriptors for each rating so raters score consistently.

EN / ES

Switches languages in place when the assessment has Spanish content.

Printing a Blank Assessment #

Selecting the View Survey button allows you to view the survey, and print it out. The Print button can be found by opening View Survey, then scrolling to the very bottom of the survey.

Assigning the Survey #

After selecting a class, you will be taken to the Class Roster page.

At the top right side of the page, you’ll see your Action buttons.

The action icons are, in order from left to right: Snapshot Report, Progress Report, View Survey, Recommended Lessons, and Download Data.

When an assessment is self-assessment capable, the roster shows Assign Self-Assessment instead of letting you complete it. Assigning creates one assessment per student, which appears in each student’s own portal.

  1. Choose Assign Self-Assessment.
  2. Pick a presentation mode. One Question at a Time shows each question alone in large type — the right choice for early grades and emerging readers. All Questions puts the whole instrument on one page, which is faster for fluent readers.
  3. Select students. Everyone is selected by default; uncheck anyone you are not assigning.
  4. Choose Assign.

Students then sign in to QuaverEd and open their own portal, where assigned assessments are listed with a Continue button. Once submitted, an assessment shows as Completed and cannot be reopened by the student. Students do not see scores or reports — that is deliberate.

Once a survey has been assigned, the Class Roster will show a “Pending” icon next to each students name, until they complete the survey.

Once a survey is assigned, you will also have a dropdown menu available for each student, where you can see a Summary, a Snapshot, and Survey Progress. You can also choose to share this survey with an educator, or delete the assigned assessment.

Reassessing #

To measure growth, assess the same person again. Choosing Reassess for a student who already has a submitted assessment creates a new one rather than editing the old one — the earlier result is preserved and both appear as tiles on the roster.

Every submission within the current school year becomes a column in the Class Progress Report and a bar in the student’s progress chart. Nothing is capped: a student assessed five times this year shows five columns.

I am trying to assign the Insight Assessment to the classes I’ve added, but I do not have the “Recommended Lessons” button. I assume that is the one I need in order to assign the assessment? Is there another way I can have my classes students’ complete the assessment (without printing a paper copy)?

      Hi Natalie,

The “Recommended Lessons” functions is actually to recommend lesson screens based on surveys sent out. When an assessment is self-assessment capable, the roster shows Assign Self-Assessment instead of letting you complete it. Assigning creates one assessment per student, which appears in each student’s own portal.
      -Choose Assign Self-Assessment.
-Pick a presentation mode. One Question at a Time shows each question alone in large type — the right choice for early grades and emerging readers. All Questions puts the whole instrument on one page, which is faster for fluent readers.
-Select students. Everyone is selected by default; uncheck anyone you are not assigning.
      -Choose Assign.
