Creating & Distributing Assignments

Use the Assignments tool to manage assignments for your classes. Assignments can be graded or ungraded. Graded assignments evaluate students through a letter or number grade. Ungraded assignments provide materials for students to read, watch, or interact with. These are marked as Complete or Incomplete.

Before starting, ensure you have set up classes and enrolled your students.

Creating Assignments #

You have two options when creating assignments: Create a new assignment or convert a lesson into an assignment.

Create a New Assignment
#
  1. Select a folder and right-click, or click Menu > New Assignment Template. Name your assignment, and a green ‘A’ will appear.
  2. You can add content and screens now that you have an empty Assignment Template. There are a couple of ways to add content to your assignment:
    • Use the search bar, Topic Index, or Resource Sets to locate content in the Resource Manager. Drag and drop search results to your assignment.
    • You can also use tools from Resource Creation to create screens. Resource Creation lets you pull content outside QuaverEd and create custom screens from scratch.

After adding your desired resources to an assignment, you can assign it to students. See the next section, Distributing Assignments, to learn more.

Convert Lesson to Assignment #
  1. Right-click any lesson in the Resource Manager within the Resource Folders.
  2. Select Create Assignment From. (This will copy all screens from a lesson to an assignment template)
  3. Name the assignment, and it will appear in your folder with a teal “A” for Assignment.
  4. You can edit assignment details or assign it to your class from the Resource Folders.

Distributing Assignments #

Now that you have created an assignment, you can assign it to your students from either Resource Manager or the Assignments tool in Student Admin.

Giving Assignments in Resource Manager #
  1. Select an Assignment from your Resource Folders.
  2. Right-click the assignment. Click Assign to Class.
  3. An Assignment Details screen will appear. (Shown in the screenshot below) Here, you can:
    • Assign to one or more classes
    • Edit Assignment Name
    • Edit Assign Date and Due Date
    • Assign to one or more students
    • Edit Assignment Description
    • Hide Assignments from Students
    • Reveal Graded Answers to Students
    • View Assignment Contents
    • Select Rubric and Grading Scale
Giving Assignments in Student Admin #

When you create an assignment in Resource Manager, it will automatically appear in the Custom tab under Assignment Templates in Student Admin > Assignments.

On the left side of the screen in Student Admin > Assignments, there are three tabs: Quaver, Custom, and District. (shown in the screenshot above)

  • The Quaver tab has a library of pre-made Quaver assignments ready to use.
  • The Custom tab has assignments you created in Resource Manager.
  • The District tab has assignments that your district colleagues have shared.
  1. Select an assignment from the three tabs and click Give Assignment.
  2. An Assignment Details screen will appear. Here, you can:
    • Assign to one or more classes
    • Edit Assignment Name
    • Edit Assign Date and Due Date
    • Assign to one or more students
    • Edit Assignment Description
    • Hide Assignments from Students
    • Reveal Graded Answers to Students
    • View Assignment Contents
    • Select Rubric and Grading Scale

Setting Auto-Grading Screens
#

A bubble will display next to screens that can be made gradable. You can only have one screen auto-graded. Click the bubble next to the screen you would like auto-graded. The screen you select will be the first screen you see when reviewing assignments in the Gradebook. Click Save to assign to your class. Your assignment will now appear on the right side of your screen, indicating that the assignment has been given.

Applying Rubrics and Grading Scales
#

Quaver teachers can apply an adjusted grading scale or rubric to assignments in the Assignment Details window. This will automatically grade your assignment based on the scale or rubric you set up.

Adjusting the Grading Scale #
  1. Click Select Grading Scale in the bottom right corner of the Assignment Details window. Choose a previously created grading scale template from here or click “+Add New” to create a new one.
  2. If you’re creating a new grading scale, enter a name for your new scale and specify each grade letter with its corresponding minimum score.
    • For example, for an assignment with a possible 100 points, you might set the minimum score for an A to 90, for a B to 80, and so on.
  3. Click Save to save your new grading scale.
  4. Select your new template from the menu and click OK to apply it to your assignment.
Applying Rubrics #
  1. Click Select Rubric in the bottom right corner of the Assignment Details window. From here, choose a previously created rubric or click “+Add New” to create a new one.
  2. See how to create a new rubric here.
  3. Select your rubric from the menu and click OK to apply it to your assignment.
Scoring with Applied Rubric #

Once students have submitted the task, you ask them to complete it. You can navigate to Student Admin > GradeBook and individually score students based on the custom rubric you built.

  1. Go to Student Admin > GradeBook.
  2. Click on a student’s cell corresponding to the assignment you wish to score. This opens the Assignment Review window.
  3. Click the green Rubric tab above the chat box.
  4. Now, you will see the rubric you applied to the assignment. Click the scores for each category. Click Submit to apply the score to the student’s assignment.

Editing Assignments #

Assignments can always be updated in the Resource Manager > Resource Folders. Right-click an assignment and click Edit Assignment. From here, you can rearrange the order of your screens, add new screens or remove screens.

Editing Assignment Menu Options

When editing an assignment, you have several options. Click Menu to see available options.

  • Launch: Open assignment.
  • Rename: Rename the selected assignment.
  • Edit Template Details: Update the Title, Grade, and Instructions.
  • Share Assignment: Share assignments with district colleagues.
  • Create Lesson From: Converts an assignment into a lesson.
  • Assign to Class: Opens Assignment Details screen for assigning to a class.
  • New Screen: Navigate to Resource Creation to create a new screen.

Important note: You can easily add or remove additional content to assignments as needed. However, it’s important to remember that if you make any changes to the assignment’s content, you must reassign it so students can view the updated version.
