Creating & Customizing Lessons

QuaverMusic comes with pre-built lessons within the Quaver Curriculum (icon on your Dashboard). But sometimes, you may wish to customize these lessons by adding your own screens or removing pre-built screens.

Creating New Lessons #

You can create a lesson by combining existing Quaver screens or custom screens you’ve made in Resource Creation.

To create a new lesson:

  • Search for a resource or drag screens from your My Custom Screens folder.
  • Drag the resource into a folder on the right side of the screen.
  • Select the folder and hit MENU and NEW LESSON.
  • Name your lesson.
  • From there, you can continue adding any screens you would like in your custom lesson.

Customizing Quaver Lessons #

To customize an existing Quaver lesson:

  • Select Resource Sets>Quaver Curriculum and pick a grade level to select a Quaver lesson.
  • Drag and drop a lesson from the middle to a Resource Folder in the right-hand section.
  • Right-click and select Edit Lesson to re-arrange, add, or remove screens from the lesson.
  • You may also right-click and Edit Headers directly from the lesson plan, which includes changing the grade level of the assignment (included in the video tutorial below)

That’s it! You can pick and choose which Quaver screens you would like to use. Move them around in any order, and mix and match them with the lessons you build.

Lesson Menu Options

Right-click a lesson OR select a lesson and click MENU to see available options:

  • Launch: Opens lesson in Lesson Plan Presenter.
  • Edit Lesson: Allows you to edit screens and headers within a lesson.
  • Rename: Renames selected item.
  • Cut: Cuts selected item to be pasted in another location.
  • Copy: Copies selected item to be pasted in another location.
  • Delete: Deletes selected item.
  • New Screen: Opens Resource Creation to create a new screen.
  • Share Lesson: Shares lesson with district colleagues.
  • Create Assignment From: Converts lesson into an assignment.
  • Lesson Plan: Opens lesson plan for selected lesson.

Sharing Lessons (with district colleagues) #

Once you have created a customized lesson, you can share it with other teachers in your district.

To share a lesson with district colleagues:

  • Select a lesson within a folder in Resource Manager.
  • Click Menu or right-click and select Share Lesson.
  • You will see the option change to Shared, and the lesson icon will change colors to indicate it is shared with others in your district.
  • To unshare content: Select the lesson again, click Menu and Shared, and the content will be unshared.

Additional tips for Sharing Lessons:

  • Once shared, colleagues can find your lessons by searching your name, the lesson title in Resource Manager, or Custom Resources in the Resource Sets tab.
  • Drag and drop shared lessons into your folders, creating a copy you can customize and use further.

How do I have a substitute sign in and do lessons?

      Hi Eileen!

There are a few options depending on what/how much you want your substitute teacher to do. If you have a long-term sub that will need to plan lessons:
      – We can add them to the license, and they will create their own account. This will give them full access to make lesson plans, etc.
      – You can provide the substitute with your username/password, giving them access to everything in your account, including lessons, assignments, gradebook, etc.

If this is a short-term sub, that will follow the plans/assignments you have created. I would create a class and add the substitute teacher as the only student in that class. I would then put all assignments they will need in that class (these assignments will also need to be assigned to the classes the students are associated with) so they can access them when they log in to their account. Here are the steps in case you need them:
      – In your student admin>Classes: create a class just for the sub.
      – Go to quavered.com/login and click below the username/password box where it says, “Need an account? Sign Up!”
      – Enter the class code for the class you just created.
      – Create a username/password for the substitute to use when they are filling in for you.
      – Go to your GradeBook and locate the class you’ve created. Right-click on the sub account’s name and choose “Login as…” You will land on the (student) dashboard that the substitute will have access to. They can access and display anything you’ve assigned to that class there.

I see the option to “get link” when I make a customized lesson but it’s grayed out. Is getting a link NOT ever an option for a customized lesson?

      Hi Kristin!

Lessons cannot be linked as a whole, whether custom lessons or Quaver lessons. Only individual screens can be linked outside of Quaver.

      Hi Vance!

Because custom lessons can include screens from a variety of different lessons, there isn’t currently a way to print a complete lesson plan for a custom lesson as a whole.

However, once you launch a screen from your custom lesson, you’ll be able to view detailed Notes (if that screen was originally part of a full lesson), and you may also see a full Lesson Plan if you included an entire lesson in your custom content. You can find both the Notes and Plan icons in the settings sidebar when viewing a screen launched from your Resource Manager.

      I hope this helps!

Is it possible to edit the “KEYWORDS” section of a lesson introduction screen? I see how to edit objectives, etc., not not keywords.

    Thank you!

      Hi Alison!

At this time, users can only edit the header, notes, purpose, objectives, resources, standards, and video instructions for a specific screen. If you’re adding new terms to a custom lesson, a great workaround is to include those keywords in the Objectives section.

Thank you for your question—I will send your feedback to our Content & Development team for consideration in future updates!
