Use the Assignments tool to manage assignments for your classes. Assignments can be graded or ungraded. Graded assignments evaluate students through a letter or number grade. Ungraded assignments provide materials for students to read, watch, or interact with. These are marked as Complete or Incomplete.
Before starting, ensure you have set up classes and enrolled your students.
Creating Assignments #
You have two options when creating assignments: Create a new assignment or convert a lesson into an assignment.
Create a New Assignment
#
- Select a folder and right-click, or click Menu > New Assignment Template. Name your assignment, and a green ‘A’ will appear.
- You can add content and screens now that you have an empty Assignment Template. There are a couple of ways to add content to your assignment:
- Use the search bar, Topic Index, or Resource Sets to locate content in the Resource Manager. Drag and drop search results to your assignment.
- You can also use tools from Resource Creation to create screens. Resource Creation lets you pull content outside QuaverEd and create custom screens from scratch.
After adding your desired resources to an assignment, you can assign it to students. See the next section, Distributing Assignments, to learn more.
Convert Lesson to Assignment #
- Right-click any lesson in the Resource Manager within the Resource Folders.
- Select Create Assignment From. (This will copy all screens from a lesson to an assignment template)
- Name the assignment, and it will appear in your folder with a teal “A” for Assignment.
- You can edit or assign it to your class from the Resource Folders.
Distributing Assignments #
Now that you have created an assignment, you can assign it to your students from either Resource Manager or the Assignments tool in Student Admin.
Giving Assignments in Resource Manager #
- Select an Assignment from your Resource Folders.
- Right-click the assignment. Click Assign to Class.
- An Assignment Details screen will appear. (Shown in the screenshot below) Here, you can:

- Select Rubric and Grading Scale
Giving Assignments in Student Admin #
When you create an assignment in Resource Manager, it will automatically appear in the Custom tab under Assignment Templates in Student Admin > Assignments.
On the left side of the screen in Student Admin > Assignments, there are three tabs: Quaver, Custom, and District. (shown in the screenshot above)
- The Quaver tab has a library of pre-made Quaver assignments ready to use.
- The Custom tab has assignments you created in Resource Manager.
- The District tab has assignments that your district colleagues have shared.
- Select an assignment from the three tabs and click Give Assignment.
- An Assignment Details screen will appear. Here, you can:
- Assign to one or more classes
- Edit Assignment Name
- Edit Assign Date and Due Date
- Assign to one or more students
- Edit Assignment Description
- Hide Assignments from Students
- Reveal Graded Answers to Students
- View Assignment Contents
- Select Rubric and Grading Scale
Setting Auto-Grading Screens
#
A bubble will display next to screens that can be made gradable. You can only have one screen auto-graded. Click the bubble next to the screen you would like auto-graded. The screen you select will be the first screen you see when reviewing assignments in the Gradebook. Click Save to assign to your class. Your assignment will now appear on the right side of your screen, indicating that the assignment has been given.

Applying Rubrics and Grading Scales
#
Quaver teachers can apply an adjusted grading scale or rubric to assignments in the Assignment Details window. This will automatically grade your assignment based on the scale or rubric you set up.
Adjusting the Grading Scale #
- Click Select Grading Scale in the bottom right corner of the Assignment Details window. Choose a previously created grading scale template from here or click “+Add New” to create a new one.
- If you’re creating a new grading scale, enter a name for your new scale and specify each grade letter with its corresponding minimum score.
- For example, for an assignment with a possible 100 points, you might set the minimum score for an A to 90, for a B to 80, and so on.
- Click Save to save your new grading scale.
- Select your new template from the menu and click OK to apply it to your assignment.
Applying Rubrics #
- Click Select Rubric in the bottom right corner of the Assignment Details window. From here, choose a previously created rubric or click “+Add New” to create a new one.
- See how to create a new rubric here.
- Select your rubric from the menu and click OK to apply it to your assignment.
Scoring with Applied Rubric #
Once students have submitted the task, you ask them to complete it. You can navigate to Student Admin > GradeBook and individually score students based on the custom rubric you built.
- Go to Student Admin > GradeBook.
- Click on a student’s cell corresponding to the assignment you wish to score. This opens the Assignment Review window.
- Click the green Rubric tab above the chat box.
- Now, you will see the rubric you applied to the assignment. Click the scores for each category. Click Submit to apply the score to the student’s assignment.
Editing Assignments #
Assignments can always be updated in the Resource Manager > Resource Folders. Right-click an assignment and click Edit Assignment. From here, you can rearrange the order of your screens, add new screens or remove screens.
Editing Assignment Menu Options
When editing an assignment, you have several options. Click Menu to see available options.
- Launch: Open assignment.
- Rename: Rename the selected assignment.
- Edit Template Details: Update the Title, Grade, and Instructions.
- Share Assignment: Share assignments with district colleagues.
- Create Lesson From: Converts an assignment into a lesson.
- Assign to Class: Opens Assignment Details screen for assigning to a class. See more about distributing assignments here.
- New Screen: Navigate to Resource Creation to create a new screen.
Important note: You can easily add or remove additional content to assignments as needed. However, it’s important to remember that if you make any changes to the assignment’s content, you must reassign it so students can view the updated version.
How do I delete a bulk list of assignments from a previous year?
Hi Lisa!
Currently, there isn’t a way to bulk delete assignments. The quickest method to delete assignments would be to right-click each one individually and select the delete option.
Another option could be to create a new class. Assignments are associated with specific classes, so starting a new class would begin with no assignments. You could then provide your students with the new class code, and you’d be good to go.
I will forward your request to our Development team for their consideration.
How can enter Teacher Observation Grades?
Hi Debra!
In Student Admin > Gradebook, find the student’s name and the assignment for which you want to set a grade. Click on that box, and it will open an Assignment Review window. At the top of the Assignment Review window is a Grade field where you can manually enter any grade you want to assign to the student.
The Reviewing Assignments section of our Gradebook article is where this is covered. https://help.quavered.com/docs/music-gradebook/#grade-assignment.
Is there a way for students to ‘unsubmit’ an assignment to make corrections and then resubmit? Currently, it looks like they can go back into the assignment and amend it, but then there is no way for them to save the corrections because there is no menu option. Thanks!
Hi Heather,
There is no way for students to ‘unsubmit,’ but as a teacher, you can go to the Gradebook, find the student and assignment, click their orange checkmark to access the Assignment Review page. On the Assignment Review page, click ‘Menu,’ then ‘Reassign Assignment for Student.’ This will clear their last submission and allow the student to resubmit.
Is there a way for teachers to print off assessment answers that students have taken>
Hi Allison!
Unfortunately, there is no direct way to print off assessment answers from students. I will make sure to submit this suggestion to our content development team!
How can I assign the same assignment twice?
Hi Jessica!
After you create an assignment, your new assignment is stored in the Resource Manager and Student Admin > Assignments. You can go back to either location and assign the assignment again.
If in Resource Manager, right-click the assignment and select ‘Assign to Class.’ In Assignments, click the ‘Custom’ tab in the top left, then click ‘Give Assignment.’
Is there a way for students to submit a recording for an assignment? for example, if I were to assign a recorder piece for them to play, would the students be able to record themselves and submit in quaver?
Hi Dena!
Yes, this capability exists. When creating an assignment to send to students, add a screen from Resource Creation called ‘Student Recording.’ Right-click on the assignment in Resource Manager, select ‘New Screen,’ and it will take you to Resource Creation, where you can include the ‘Student Recording’ screen. Once assigned, students can record and submit videos, which will appear in your Student Admin > Gradebook.
Here is a link to the Student Recording help page, https://help.quavered.com/docs/music-student-recording/.
I would like my students to resubmit an assignment after reading the directions again; how can I do that?
Hi Lani!
You have two options for reassigning assignments.
1. To reassign the assignment to the whole class, go to Student Admin > Assignments. From there, you can easily reassign the assignment for the whole class. If you choose this option, it may be worth right-clicking the previously given assignment to delete it, ensuring students don’t have duplicate assignments in their accounts.
2. If you prefer to reassign assignments individually, navigate to Student Admin > Gradebook. Click on the cell corresponding to the assignment and student, which will take you to the Assignment Review screen. From there, click Menu > Reassign Assignment for Student.
Can students enter text in a field for an assignment, instead of just answering multiple choice questions? For example, I want students to share information for an assignment about their favorite music style/genre that they have gathered from QuaverBooks.
Hi Ashley!
That is not currently a feature offered. I’ve passed your request to our Content & Development team for consideration.
An alternative option at the moment is to send the students a Student Recording screen, where they can upload or directly record a video on their device and submit it to your gradebook. To do this, go to Resource Creation on your Dashboard and then to Student Recording. You can add this new screen to an assignment, which can then be sent to your students.
In an Assignment Template, is there a way to make more than one screen graded? I’d like to have students submit and receive grades for the last two screens in an Assignment Template, but it seems to only allow me to select one of them to be graded.
Hi Alison!
In short, yes, you can have multiple graded screens. If you have multiple graded screens, students can still complete all of them. However, the one you select to be graded will take precedence over any other graded screens when displaying a grade in the gradebook or in the student’s account. For example, if you select screen 8 to be graded but not screen 9, both screens can be completed by the student, but screen 8 will show as the assignment’s grade.
When it comes to viewing the submitted work of screens you did not select as the graded screen, click the student’s grade or checkmark in the gradebook, and this will take you to the Assignment Review screen. Then use the next and previous arrows to navigate to different screens and view their work.
Thanks so much, Van! This is a very helpful explanation!
