Managing Assignments in Quaver
This article will answer frequently asked questions about assignments in Quaver. This article is relevant for QuaverMusic and QuaverSEL users who have already created and distributed assignments to students.
I assigned something to my students and I want to see if they have completed it. What do I need to do?
In order for an assignment to show up as completed in your GradeBook, the assignment needs to include a graded screen.
When building an assignment, these screens have a dot next to them. Click inside the dot to turn it purple—your assignment now has a graded screen!
There are several types of screens that can be marked as graded. These include assessments, custom quizzes, Student Recording Screens, and much more.
If your assignment is not for a grade, but you still want to see if students have completed it, we recommend you create a Custom Quiz and add it to the end of your assignment. You can make it simple, with one question such as, “Did you complete this assignment?” When students click yes (or no), it will show up in your GradeBook as graded and you will be able to see that the students accessed and completed the assignment.
You now have the option to automatically track student attendance upon login! If you’d just like to track when your students log in, learn how you can do just that.
I want to chat with/message my students but I don’t understand how to do that.
Did you know that you have the ability to chat with students? You can do this privately or even as a class!
Please note that as of April 2020 we have disabled GROUP messaging by default to avoid any unwanted messaging. Teachers can elect to turn this feature on.
Grading an Assignment
As you’re building your assignment, you’ll see a few options for grading in the Assignment Review window. If you’d like to use a rubric template to evaluate this assignment, click the SELECT RUBRIC space, choose a rubric, or create a new one. You also have the option to Adjust the Grading Scale on this page.
Once students have submitted an assignment with a gradeable screen, it will show up in your GradeBook for you to review.
Next to each assignment, you’ll find an icon that you can decipher using the Icon Legend.
Click on the icon to pull up the Assignment Review window.
Here, you’ll be able to view Assignment Details, send a message to students, mark and submit grades to your GradeBook, and more.
Grades can be changed at any point by clicking on the number in your GradeBook and changing it in the Assignment Review window.
I want to leave a comment for a student on an assignment. How do I do that?
Note that there is a COMMENTS box in the Assignment Review window.
Any text entered here can be viewed in your GradeBook when clicking on the cell where it was entered. These comments cannot be viewed by students but serve as a way to add notes that a teacher can reference later.
If you would like to send a comment about a grade or assignment to a student, the best way to do that is through Messaging on the left side of the Assignment Review screen.
